MARGO NEELY is the Executive Producer, Director, Showrunner, co-writer, Art Director, Graphic Designer, Editor, Sound Designer, and Composer behind Ladies Revenge Club. Now she’s telling the terrifying, too-true tale of what went in to the making of LRC —pre, during, post production… and beyond!
In her own shocking words…
Making Ladies Revenge Club was as close to that old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland “Hey Kids! Let’s put on a show!” trope as anyone can possibly imagine. It started with two solid months of preproduction in my office in the Berkshires —writing and editing, composing and recording music, designing the location backgrounds for rear projection, collecting props and costume pieces, and traveling to New York City to collaborate with David Crabb, prep the theater, and rehearse. During the eleven day shoot at Axis, we were besieged by leaks and flooding in the theater, illness, technical calamity, actor absence, and two days of four simultaneous street crews drilling the ground above our heads. It wasn’t easy, but we made it work.
Everyone involved in this project pulled double their weight and then some. True to the nature of a theatrical collaborative, Axis Company’s members are artists, not just actors. In front of the camera, they took what David and I wrote to an entirely different level —creating unique, fabulous characters, and breathing life into the script. Behind the lens, they provided support as creatives and associate producers. Our crew did the same—giving generously of their time and equipment to make this project a reality. The dedication was there because, literally and figuratively, it was a family affair.
I am proud of what we have accomplished, and thrilled to see the finished product meet its audience. I hope that Ladies Revenge Club makes you laugh when you need it most, and maybe even warms your heart a little. It was a labor of love, and we sincerely hope you love it!
